“The Childbirth Collective is a registered 501(c)(3), and donations are tax-deductible.”

The Childbirth Collective stands in solidarity with all families affected by recent immigration enforcement activity in the Twin Cities and beyond.

We recognize the fear, stress, and disruption this moment brings—especially for pregnant people, parents, and children. Many families are afraid to leave their homes to seek pregnancy, birth, and postpartum care. Children are afraid to go to school. Families are facing the very real risk of separation.

Our work is rooted in the belief that every family deserves safety, dignity, and compassionate care—regardless of where they come from or their circumstances. We affirm that every pregnant person, child, and parent deserves protection and access to support.

As barriers for families have continued to grow, community-based leaders are carrying an extraordinary load. Multilingual and BIPOC doulas, lactation professionals, bodyworkers, midwives, and grassroots healthcare organizations are providing extensive care, coordination, and advocacy within their communities. Much of this work is being offered at no cost, with individuals covering essential expenses out of pocket to keep families supported.

This rapid response fund exists to support both local families directly impacted by immigration enforcement and the community-led organizations who have always been at the heart of this work.

Thank you for showing up with care, generosity, and solidarity. Your support helps ensure families can continue to access safe, dignified, and compassionate care when they need it most.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • The Childbirth Collective is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization committed to education, support, and advocacy for birthing people and families. The mission of The Childbirth Collective is to enhance birth experiences by promoting quality professional doula support, advocating evidence-based care, and educating pregnant families and birth professionals who support the wellness model of perinatal care by creating spaces to connect with the community, and each other

  • The Childbirth Collective originated in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, occupied Dakota Territories, in 1993. Our founders were a small group of enthusiastic humans who had big ideas about childbirth that were not being addressed or explored by the medical healthcare establishment.

  • The Childbirth Collective recognizes disparities in perinatal health within black, brown, indigenous, Latinx, and LGBTQIA+ communities, throughout the birth continuum. In order to further the closure of these gaps, the Board and the membership of The Childbirth Collective are dedicated to listening to and amplifying the voices of affected communities and supporting those that identify and/or work within those communities.

On our journey to becoming a more inclusive, anti-racist organization we are committed to educating our members. We expect our members to learn, grow, and challenge themselves to become allies, accomplices, and advocates in spaces in which they are representing the Collective, and within their own lives and businesses. This includes being open to unpacking bias, recognizing where each has privilege, and how that privilege intersects within different aspects of our identities (race, class, gender, etc).

  • Funds raised by The Childbirth Collective’s Rapid Response Fund are directed to trusted, community-based organizations supporting immigrant and refugee families who are pregnant, birthing, or in the postpartum period and have been impacted by recent enforcement activity and sudden disruptions.

We’re intentionally balancing transparency with the need to stay nimble. That allows us to respond as needs shift in real time and to protect organizations that prefer not to be publicly named so they can continue their work without added attention or interference.

We prioritize organizations that are culturally responsive, linguistically accessible, and deeply rooted in the communities they serve. Our goal is to add resources where they are most needed—not replace existing efforts—while strengthening coordination and collective response. This work is grounded in dignity, safety, equity, and solidarity, and balances urgent needs with long-term community well-being.

We’re grateful to share that our first contribution will go to Inspire Change Clinic, an immigrant-owned clinic located in South Minneapolis. Inspire Change Clinic provides culturally responsive pregnancy and postpartum care, health education, and a motherhood circle that supports connection, health literacy, and community resilience for families navigating marginalization.

As this moment continues to unfold, additional funds will be directed to aligned organizations on the ground.
